<image:title>Midwest Lakes and Ponds - A Little Peace and Quiet</image:title>
<image:caption>Beaver Dam State Park is a favorite location of mine. When fog rolls in the mood of the lake changes dramatically. The park has a number of Wood Duck houses placed on poles in shallow water to protect the nest from predators. I waded into the lake to compose the Wood Duck house against the peace and quiet of the foggy shoreline.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Midwest Lakes and Ponds - Fall Highlight</image:title>
<image:caption>One of my favorite places for Fall photography is a small pond at the family farm. Cool temperatures and warm water produced misty conditions across the watery surface, when I noticed the first rays of morning light filtering through trees illuminating the far shoreline.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Midwest Lakes and Ponds - Fall Signature</image:title>
<image:caption>Beaver Dam State Park is great any time of the year, but Fall is my favorite. The 1.7, mile path around the park’s 57-acre lake offers numerous compositions, especially when fog is present. The lake has an average depth of four feet, so old stumps are common around the water’s edge. I came across this stump surrounded by fallen leaves, which signals the changing seasons and acts as a foreground to the distant shoreline. What’s great about this morning is the peace and quiet present in the hours just after sunrise. The only things that broke the silence were the geese and herons that inhabit the area.~</image:caption>

<image:title>Midwest Lakes and Ponds - Gearing Up For Fall</image:title>
<image:caption>Fall photography is full opportunity and surprises. Even though the trees haven’t started showing the various hues of Fall color; the cool mornings and warm water produce a misty vapor that glides across the pond, creating the moody tones of Fall.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Midwestern Barns - Early Riser</image:title>
<image:caption>Like a lot of my photos, this is a scene I’ve visited many times. It’s convenient because the barn sits a few miles from home, just off Route 4, for those who live in Macoupin County. While I’ve shot this barn before, it was almost always late in the day. Because I love morning light, I felt sunrise would provide the mood missing from previous attempts. As summer passes the sun pushed further to the south, rising just behind the old barn. As it rose, rays of light appear, highlighting the last of the early ground fog.</image:caption>

<image:caption>This is a favorite spot of mine. I love it’s eastern exposure, fence line and seasonal changes. Dawning Anticipation, which I shot in 2016, was photographed about 30 yards from where I’m standing. Photographers always talk about filtered light and use a variety of techniques to achieve their goals. For weeks, wild fires in the west have raged out-of-control. Smoke from the fires have made its way across the country, creating a haze in the early morning sky. This acts as a filter against harsh sunlight and creates warm hues of morning color.</image:caption>
